How to make a KitchenAid Stand Mixer Cookie – Favor for a kitchen theme bridal shower
Kitchenaid Mixer Cookie
All the cookie favors
My oldest nephew is getting married soon and some of my siblings decided to pitch in money for a kitchenaid mixer. The wedding color is yellow and hopefully they will like the mixer.
If you want to see the process, keep reading.
To start, I mixed up beeinourbonnets sugar cookie dough recipes found here. To make the process easy I rolled the dough between two sheets of saran wrap. I’ve also done this between parchment paper or even two silpats.
While I waited for the dough to chill I prepared the royal icing using Sweetsugarbelle’s recipe and tutorials. For this project I am going to force myself to stick to yellow, gray and just a little bit of black for details.
To save time roll out dough before chilling
I cut out the shape of the mixer on a paperplate. Simply print the image, and trace onto the plate. If you want to be super careful use an edible ink pen to trace the image. I decided to simplify the shape a bit as I will be making close to 30 of these cookies. Someday I want to make one exact, but in this case I had to be realistic about the whole thing.
After the cookies are baked and cool I put the cookies under the kopykake and outlined the drawing using an edible ink marker. I did this assembly line style. I realized everytime I switched tools I lost time.
Next, working with about eight cookies at a time, I started by outlining the yellow areas. After that I outlined the gray areas. I then flooded the small sections alternatively. I don’t think I got a great picture of this, but I think you get it. Let each small area set up for about 20-30 minutes before filling the next. Then add a few small details using the wet-on-wet technique. I added the bolts, but I don’t know if I would add them next time. They look like freaky alien eyes. Especially late at night.
Outline grey
At this point it is 3AM and all the cookies are flooded. I wonder if anyone is even reading this.
The next day I painted the Wilton silver dust, mixed with 1:1 with lemon extract. I found lemon extract really cheap at business Costco for this purpose.
These look amazing! Great step by step too!I hope your nephew appreciates all of your hard work! (I LOVE the yellow)
Hopefully they will appreciate them. I'm sad I won't be at the shower but I will be there “in cookie…” ha ha. It's fun making cookies for family and friends, I don't know if I could even put a price on these!
Soo pretty!!!! I love them!
Thanks for looking! I really want to make a red one to match my mixer.
These are so pretty!! You should be very proud of yourself. These turned out REALLY, REALLY well!!
Thanks Georgeanne, it was really hard to just do the one color for the bridal shower. I love color!!! I need to make a red one, and a matching can of diet coke to go next to it.
Oh my gosh, this post so opened my eyes to the kopycake…I get it now! My question is did you use that image in the photo, or does it have to be on a transparency? I keep thinking it is like an old overhead projector…I would love to see one in action!
Susie, Did you see the little picture of the Kitchenaid I used for the template? (4th photo down) I simply used that print out, tape it to the inside of the projector. There is a little door that opens and you tape the photo in.
Here is a really really amateur video my sister did of me decorating a cookie when the kopykake arrived. (at the end of the post)

Here is another post with more pictures of the kopykake.

There is a little door that opens up and you tape the image to the inside of that back door. The machine is so simple. You place the photo on the back of a door. When closed there are mirrors on the inside and a light bulb that allows the image to be projected down. My family members were laughing at how simple the process is.
if you need more pics i can get some. I made sure I was able to fall squiggly lines and would spend hours practicing outlining “o”s and squiggles to make sure my hands were steady enough. I hope this helps!

So to answer your question, no it doesn't have to be on a transparency, it is much simpler than an overhead projector.
The cookies were a hit and looked exactly like the KitchenAid they got! You are amazing! I love the silver dust.
RayAnne, it's therapeutic… maybe like knitting socks? 🙂 How do I get invited to your blog? My email is spaylor@msn.com
Hopefully they tasted okay. Too much of the glittery stuff can sometimes leave an aftertaste.
Great tutorial and great job on the cookies!! They're gorgeous!!! 🙂
Thanks for looking. It takes me a long time to figure out the order of outlining and flooding the cookies. Hopefully this can help make it easier for someone else. They were a hit at the bridal shower. My sister had to make sure no one too more then one!
Theses are so cute!
I just found you thru sweet adventures of sugarbelle! Thank you sou much for sharing these wonderful cookies!! I am truly amazed at your idea! Beautiful workmanship!
Thanks for looking Mari! These were definitely a labor of love!
🙂 Suzanne
Can you make these ahead and freeze them? Any experience with that?
Chloe,
When I made Thanksgiving cookies

I decorated them a couple weeks in advanced and froze them. If you do this, be very careful that the cookies do not get bumped in the freezer. I quickly placed them in a tupperware container and noticed from all the food going in and out some of the details were knocked off of the cookie. So yes, you can freeze them, just keep them in a safe corner of the freezer. The details become more brittle and will flake off if anything bumps into them. Just handle with extra care.
If I ever make cookies for my kids’ birthdays I HAVE to freeze them at least a couple of weeks in advanced because I’m so busy with the cake and everything else for the party.
Let me know how it goes!
Suzanne 🙂
