How to Make a Fruit Smoothie
We have fresh strawberries in our garden. They aren’t always pretty and usually over-ripened by the time we eat them, but I usually just rinse them and place them in the freezer. They are perfect for fruit smoothies with the heat. Above is the basic recipe I follow. Use whatever yogurt you prefer – plain, vanilla, Greek or even homemade. As always, whatever you have on hand. Any variety of fruit will work as well. For a sweetener we use maple syrup, Agave syrup or sometimes honey. If the yogurt is already sweet or the fruit is exceptionally ripe you may not even need sweetener. This is all to taste. Blend all ingredients and adjust at the very end.
How to Make a Fruit Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen fruit
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 Tablespoon sweetener (or to taste)
Place fruit and yogurt in the blender. I use a Vitamix heavy duty blender and it does not have any trouble blending the ingredients. If your blender is stalling you may need a bit more liquid. Add milk, water or juice to get the blade moving. Once the fruit and yogurt is blended taste to see if you need any sweetener, and adjust accordingly. Serve immediately. Left-over smoothie can be placed in Popsicle molds to be enjoyed later.
Oh my goodness are those Redneck drinking jars? I have a set of them in my kitchen.
Jayne – so good to see you on here! Yes they are a favorite!! I love drinking out of them because they are easier to rinse and clean compared to the kids plastic cups. No, I lied. I forgot to wash the dishes so on to mason jars!!
