German Pancakes
This is a great breakfast dish to feed a crowd. My kids love to watch the German pancake puff up and sizzle in the oven as it bakes.
German Pancakes
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 6 eggs
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp salt (if using salted butter – more for unsalted butter)
- 4 Tablespoons butter
Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Place milk, flour, eggs, vanilla extract and salt in a blender and pulse for 10-15 seconds until well incorporated. Place the butter in a 9 inch by 13 inch glass pyrex casserole dish. Place dish in the preheated oven for 5 minutes until the butter is melted. Pour batter into the warm dish now coated with melted butter. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the pancake is puffed and no longer moist in the center. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings; syrup, whipped cream, additional butter, or berry preserves are all delicious.
Yum! I forgot about this breakfast- this might be a good solution to feed my kids before their early summer swim practice. I love that this recipe leaves really only 2 dirty dishes- the blender and 1 pan. Thanks for posting!
Dear suz,
this recipe tastes fantastic! I tried it immediatly when i saw it.
But im from germany and i’ve never seen somebody making their pancakes in the oven.
we just mix flour, eggs , milk together and then we make them in a large pan.
greetings from germany 🙂
I’m so glad you liked these. I have no idea why they are called German pancakes – it makes no sense. I love how easy these are to prepare for a crowd. My sister gave me this recipe, I will have to ask her where she got the recipe. My parents spent a lot of time in Munich and they never had this when they were there. 🙂
Thanks for looking!
